Description:
5000 series: known as 'marine grade' aluminium, is alloyed with magnesium, corrosion resistant but non-heat treatable, hence it is widely used in fabrication such as transportation, tanks, vessels and bridges.
6000 series alloy include applications from transportation, to infrastructure to more every day uses like fly fishing reels, firearm suppressors, non-flight critical aircraft components and automotive components. 6061 is available in many forms, including extrusion sheets, and forgings.
Aluminum alloy 6061 and alloys of the 7000 series are most commonly used in the production of bicycle frames (Easton Sports).
